Not Just A West Michigan Dealership

traveling mapA while back Grandville Trailer was contacted by a gentleman, Fred, who lives in upstate New York. Why might a man living in upstate New York be contacting a West Michigan trailer dealership you ask? You guessed it, he was in need of a trailer. Not just any trailer, though. He was specifically looking for an enclosed trailer that would soon be towing his precious cargo across the United States. Let us explain this nifty story.

deuce 2 fan gone plus no lightsFred found his 1932 Roadster, named Deuce, out in California from a man that had recently built the car from the ground up.  With the 1960’s muscle car in mind, Fred’s Roadster is powered by a 327 cubic inch engine mated to a GM Turbo 350 automatic transmission and finished off with a 8″ Ford differential. Topping off this masterpiece is a full leather interior and trunk area as well, clearly no detail was spared. The only dilemma in this match made in heaven, was how to get this new beauty from the west coast to the east coast.

IMG_1850This is where we come into the story.  Fred found himself a Haulmark enclosed trailer that he liked and knew would suit his needs in transporting Deuce from point A to point B.  He contacted us with his request and we were able to get him in touch with our Haulmark friends down in Bristol, Indiana. We were able to arrange for Fred to travel from his upstate New York home over to Haulmark in Bristol, Indiana, grab his new trailer and continue on the road to Reno, Nevada, where Deuce was eagerly awaiting his arrival.

Fred says that Deuce traveled extremely well  from Reno back to New York and even though the Roadster isn’t suitable for the snowy New York winters, he looks forward to sitting in his garage and admiring it when he isn’t out driving it around.  As for Grandville Trailer, we couldn’t have been more thrilled to help Fred achieve this dream of his and to have had the opportunity to play a role in this truly unique story.

Meet the Team : Update

Today I want to take a minute to tell you about all the wonderful people that work at this wonderful dealership. They make Grandville Trailer a great place to work and do business. It’s not all about the trailers… It’s about the people!

Management

IMG_4743Let’s start with the owner, Dave. I probably don’t need to talk about him because you probably already know him. Everyone in west Michigan seems to know Dave Tosh. He’s fun, kind, generous and everybody’s friend. Before he stepped into the exciting world of trailers, he had a counter top business called Tosh’s Tops. After giving everyone in Grand Rapids new and beautiful counters, he decided it was time to sell everyone in Grand Rapids a trailer! Dave runs a fair and honest business. He genuinely loves his job and seeks to do right by his customers and employees. On his few days off, he hunts, travels all over to visit family, and cruises around in his fully restored 67′ Mustang.

Service Department

One of the things that makes Grandville Trailer stand out is our excellent service department. Our mechanics work hard to keep customers’ trailers working perfectly. Among other things, they repack bearings, replace electric and hydraulic brakes, install hitches, and repair damaged trailers.

016 (1)

Joe is our head mechanic and has been at Grandville Trailer longer than anyone else. (His assistant Phil has been with Grandville Trailer for almost a year, and the two of them make a great team).  Joe works hard and does his job very well.  Joe’s love for repairing things has led him to several auctions where he has purchased different machinery items in need of repair. A gear head with a green thumb, he also has a passion for gardening. We hope that Joe will continue to stick around for a long time!

Sales

We strive to have the best selection of cargo, utility, dump and landscape trailers possible. We also want to make sure we have all the right parts and supplies in our store. We have an awesome team of guys that work together to make sure our customers get all their questions answered. We don’t want to sell trailers for the sake of selling trailers. We genuinely want our customers to walk away happy, informed and satisfied with their experience.013 (1)

John just may be the heart of Grandville Trailer. He is an awesome employee who loves his job and loves to give customers a great experience. He is patient, thorough and very knowledgeable about our products. He is “Papa” to six sweet grandkids, and in his free time he enjoys bowling, camping and just spending time with his wonderful family.

020

Greg is the son of Dave and Andrea. He’s a goofy guy with a love for people. He keeps things  fun at work, but don’t let that fool you. He works hard and knows a lot about trailers. He spends his free time with his beautiful wife, disc golfing, scoping out new breweries in Grand Rapids or reading “What to expect when you’re expecting”.  That’s right, Greg and his wife are expecting their first child (baby boy) this October.  We are so excited for the two of them, and cannot wait to meet the little guy.

Omelay 7x16 titan 072

Jim Is a retired 7th and 8th grade computer teacher, and is a part-time employee of Grandville Trailer. He is a man of many talents and he is gifted musically with singing and playing the guitar. He recently began leading worship at Lifeline Church! Jim also has a passion for building and has almost completed the year long project of building his new house. We are thankful to have him on board!

DSCN1099Lance joined us a few months ago, making him the newest member at Grandville Trailer. He is quickly learning the in’s and out’s of the industry, and is really enjoying meeting all of the customers. He is a true Michigander at heart and loves his sports, especially basketball and golf.  He and his lovely wife, one and a half year old daughter, and 3 four legged family members (his dogs) are currently in the process of finding a new home for their growing family.  We are grateful to have found him.  He makes a great addition.

Behind the Scenes
Ron

Ron is Grandville Trailer’s trailer master, and you will see why.  He is the one who oversees the coming and going of trailers, he keeps our lot nice and tidy by organizing the trailers by height and size, takes photos of new inventory for our website, preps the trailers for the lot, and keeps the trailers nice and clean.  And as if that’s not enough, he also cuts the grass, and takes care of all other building maintenance needs.  We appreciate everything he does to make our place look nice, and run smoothly.

unnamed Brendan, is a high school senior at South Christian.  He is very active in a youth program called Teens Encountering Christ (TEC).  Brendan is planning on attending Cornerstone University in the fall of 2017.  He spends his Saturday’s working at Grandville Trailer during the school year, cleaning the store, vacuuming, taking out the trash and his greatest task, putting up with Greg’s antics.

1924376_778533975542479_8132334015825027284_nAndrea is Dave’s wife and she has been by his side through it all.  They work together in running this awesome dealership.  Andrea does all of Grandville Trailer’s bookkeeping and a whole lot of paperwork. She spends a lot of her time volunteering, working out, spoiling her grandbabies, and just loving on all the people in her life. Grandville Trailer is blessed to have her around and so is her family!

And then there’s me, Meagan. I am Dave and Andrea’s niece. I’m here in the mitten state with my awesome husband and crazy 9 month old puppy.  I’m a full time waitress at a local restaurant, and work part time for Grandville Trailer doing their computer marketing. I was so excited when they asked me to be a part of their team and in the process I’m learning a lot about marketing, trailers and everything in between. I’m loving every minute of it and I’m so glad to be doing my part to keep our customers informed!

Have you had a good experience at Grandville Trailer because of these people? If so, could you leave us a quick review? We are so thankful for your business and a couple positive sentences from you could do a lot for our little store! You can leave a review on Google, or on our Facebook page.  Thank you and we look forward to working with you in the future!

Local Organization is Making a Huge Difference in Michigan

1 in 5 Children in the United States, go without which one of the following options, every day?

A. Access to Social Media           B. Cell Phone                  C. Cable TV                         D. Other

While A, B and C are great guesses, if you guessed “other”, you’re on the right track.  The ratio of 1 in 5 is actually how many children in the United States will go without food, today!

In an effort to narrow these jaw dropping numbers, many organizations have joined the fight to help end hunger in the United States.

Did you know, that all of these organizations combined are helping over 20 million children receive either a free or discounted lunch during the school week? While the assistance that these kiddos receive during the week is certainly a huge blessing, it still raises a pretty big question.

Where do those same kids get proper nourishment on the weekend?  h2h_logo_2013-294x300

I’m glad you asked! This is where Hand2Hand steps in.  Hand2Hand is a local organization here in Jenison, Michigan (just a hop, skip and a jump from Grandville Trailer) that was founded in 2008 by a woman named Cheri Honderd.

Cheri Honderd, Founder and Executive Director

Cheri Honderd, Hand2Hand Founder and Executive Director

During her childhood, Cheri’s parents struggled as well to find employment. She could relate to the children in her community who don’t always know where their next meal is coming from, and the ongoing stories Cheri heard, of children going hungry, caused her to take action.

Cheri’s passion, dedication and nearly 730 volunteers make the Hand2Hand vision a reality! Hand2Hand’s mission is “to deliver hope to hungry children by mobilizing schools and churches to provide nutritious food over the weekends”.

The Hand2Hand organization not only bridges the gap of weekend hunger, they also show these kiddos that they are cared for, and that there can be a “constant” in their life.

Recently, Grandville Trailer had the opportunity to partner with Hand2Hand, in helping them fulfill their dream of having a “Hope on the Move” trailer.

The brilliant idea behind their “Hope on the Move” trailer is to bring the donation center to you, and make donating even more accessible.  Their hope is that different groups will host the trailer in their neighborhood or at their workplace.  The trailer would then become a 1 to 2 day mobile “drop off” location for anyone willing to donate food to the Hand2Hand ministry.

We were beyond flattered that they asked us to be a part of such a huge mission, and obviously, gladly accepted.new hand 2 hand

What started as an idea in 2008, with 19 children being well nourished over the weekend, has grown to 3692 children, and a partnership with 85 Michigan schools and 59 Churches.

In 2016 Hand2Hand is on track to partner with 12 more schools and 9 more churches, and with the help of the Lord, faithful volunteers with servant hearts, and loads of donations, hopefully their impact can spread even farther than West Michigan.

5 Exciting Things Happening at Grandville Trailer in 2015

Well, 2014 was an awesome year for us here. We gained a lot of new suppliers, products, and customers. We attended several shows and conventions around the country to learn more about our business and work with new people. We have grown our business in several ways and we can’t wait to see what is in store for us this upcoming year.

Even though we don’t know everything that will happen this year, I can tell you one thing for sure. With Dave Tosh as the owner, we will always, ALWAYS be striving for improvement. So of course, we have a few new things to look forward to this year.

5 Improvements for 2015

1. New Dealer Management Software

No doubt this will be a big learning curve for us as we try to figure out how to navigate the new systems (Please be patient with us as we do so!) But what does this mean for you as the customer?

  • Less time in the store as we will finally have a scanner and we can ditch the pen and paper.
  • We will have the ability to keep better track of you, your purchases, and any work done on your trailer.
  • We can easily communicate with you to quickly inform you of the status of your trailer.

2. New Suppliers

We are building our stock of open steel frame trailers with the help of two new suppliers:

  • Griffin Trailer will supply us with heavy duty equipment haulers, dump trailers, and landscape trailers.
  • JRC Trailers manufactures utility trailers and car haulers. They also do fantastic custom trailers.
    thumb

3. HitchGrip

This is a really cool product that will be arriving on our shelves in March. This was designed for those frequently towing campers or trailers. It takes the grease and awkwardness out of maneuvering your hitch.

Let us know if you want one before March!

4. You Guessed it: More Trailers

Throughout 2014 we had a hard time just keeping trailers on the lot. They kept selling before we even got them. A problem that we were happy to have! This year, however, we want to ensure that our customers have the best options readily available. We currently have over 60 trailers in stock and there are more on the way. We have over 80 on order from Aluma, NEO, Haulmark and Stealth. It’s probably safe to say that we have the most trailers for sale in West Michigan.

Now we’re just hoping that people around here still need trailers. If not, well, that could be embarrassing.

5. Where Are We Going to Put all These Trailers?

In case you didn’t hear, last year we bought a tattoo parlor! Mostly because we thought it would be fun to say that we own a tattoo parlor. But also, that tattoo parlor just happens to be right next door to our dealership. With all this growing we’ve been doing, we were looking for more space to expand our lot. This project is still a ways down the road, though. We are hoping to start the remodel this year!

I hope I don’t sound like a broken record, but I just wanted to say “Thank You” again to all our customers, friends and business partners! Without all the amazing people supporting this little business, we would still be a tattoo-parlor-less dealership with an empty lot! Who want’s that?

Please Like us on Facebook and share this post with your friends. Thank you for your support!

A Quick Look Into The Best Trailer Service in Grand Rapids

I’ve told you all about our trailers.

I’ve told you all about our trailer parts.

I’ve told you all about our awesome team.

Now it’s time to tell you all about our garage and how we offer the best trailer service in Grand Rapids.

We have two guys that work full time in our garage. They are very experienced in trailer maintenance, and when you bring your trailer to them, your trailer is in good hands. We provide many different services. Here are just a few of the things we can do:

  • Wheel Bearing Repacks
  • Welding and Body Work
  • Tires
  • Brakes: Electric and Hydraulic (Surge)
  • Tongue Jacks
  • Trailer Hitches (We Install CURT Hitches)
  • Replacement Couplers
  • Electrical/Lighting Repairs

Although we are known for traditional trailers, we also frequently work on boat trailers and we do some maintenance work on RV trailers such as brakes and bearings. We also have the ability to install CURT hitches and wiring harness’ in cars, trucks, SUVs and vans.

We do ask that you call to make an appointment before bringing in your trailer or vehicle. Typically, when you bring your trailer in in the morning, we will have it ready for pick-up that afternoon.

I took a moment and sat down with Greg, who told me everything about the service department. Take a look at this short video and give us a call if you have any questions! We would love to be the ones to provide you with your trailer service in Grand Rapids this winter.

Why You Are So Important

Thanksgiving is rapidly approaching and it has a lot of us in a sappy, thankful mood. In the midst of Thanksgiving dinner preparations, Christmas shopping and hunting, I wanted to write a cliche post on what we’re thankful for this year.

It’s been two years now with Dave as the owner of Grandville Trailer and we have seen so much growth in those years. We are so thankful for the incredible team here that we get to work with week after week. And we are so thankful for the amazing customers that we have the privilege of serving. Shop 014

Month after month we are setting new records on our sales. And month after month we are blown away with God’s blessings and provisions! We have had several out-of-state buyers and countless west Michiganders purchasing trailers from us. We have been so blessed by our customers as well as our many new suppliers. Grandville Trailer remains a fun and cheerful place to do business and we can’t wait to see how our business will change and grow in the next two years.

To all of our loyal customers, and supportive friends and family: We are so thankful for you!

Seriously, Grandville Trailer would not be Grandville Trailer without you. We wouldn’t be seeing this tremendous growth without you. We just wouldn’t. We value each of you and we want you to know that you are important to us. So from all of us here, we wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!

“I always thank my God for you.” – 1 Corinthians 1:4bunnamed

The Team Behind the Trailers

Happy Friday everyone! Today I want to take a minute to tell you about all the wonderful people that work at this wonderful dealership. They make Grandville Trailer a great place to do work and business. It’s not all about the trailers… It’s about the people!

Management

IMG_4743Let’s start with the owner, Dave. I probably don’t need to talk about him because you probably already know him. Everyone in west Michigan seems to know Dave Tosh. He genuinely loves his job and seeks to do right by his customers and employees. On his few days off, he hunts, travels to Omaha to visit family, and works on his Mustang restoration. IMG_4747Cody is a very gifted mechanic and we are thankful to have him working with us! His days are long and busy, though. Not only does he work for us full time, he is also in school for Criminal Justice. We will miss him when he’s done here, but he will make a great police officer! When he is away from work and school, he is a true outdoorsman. He loves golfing, fishing, hunting and even Tough Mudder competitions. Props to you, Cody!

Sales

We strive to have the best selection of trailers possible and we want to make sure we have all the right parts in our store. We have an awesome team of guys that work together to make sure our customers get all their questions answered. We don’t want to sell trailers for the sake of selling trailers. He is also planning a wedding with his beautiful and intelligent fiance for next summer! The two make an awesome couple and we are thrilled for them!

018 (2)

Bill is semi-retired but we are lucky enough to still have him working with us! He is a friendly face at Grandville Trailer and will greet you with a smile. When asked what he likes to do he responds with “Bow hunting, hunting, and hunting!” He is also making a difference in the life of a 6th-grader by mentoring. He loves his family and has 14 grandkids! He is a blessing to many people.

Jim also has a passion for building and is about to begin building a house. We are happy to have him on board!

James did a whole lot of work for us this past summer. It would have been a difficult summer without him. He did a lot of the hard work like washing trailers, building maintenance, transporting trailers, cleaning, mowing and a whole lot more. He did these things with a willing heart and a smile on his face. It was so good to have him around and we wish he was here all the time!

And then there’s me, Ally. I am Dave and Andrea’s daughter and I live in Nebraska with my wonderful husband and two amazing kids. I was thrilled when my parents asked me to work remote for their awesome business. I have learned a whole lot more about marketing, computers and trailers than I ever thought I would! I love every minute of it and I’m so glad to be doing my part to keep our customers informed!

A Homemade Trailer Worth Talking About

The Lawley Pop

We have something really cool to share with our readers today! This is a project from one our our customers, Kenn. Kenn is a retired west Michigan business owner with a passion for boats. He has a replica of the boat launch that was designed by George Lawley in 1907.  The boat here was built by the Great Lakes Boat Building School in Grandville, MI. The original boat had a 5 horse power engine that popped when it ran, so it was named “The Lawley pop.” (Pronounced “Lolly Pop”) This boat was started in 2013 and Kenn took over and finished it. Here is the finished product

Lawley Pop Launcher

But Kenn didn’t stop there. What he really wanted was to bring his boat to boat shows throughout the US. He took the matter into his own hands and built his very own boat launch aluminum trailer. IMG_1327

The Hauler

Kenn also wanted an enclosed trailer to protect his boat when traveling to his boat shows. That’s when he came to us. He bought a trailer from Aluma through Grandville Trailer and he went to Iowa himself to pick it up. Here is the model that be bought from Aluma. 7814st-utility-trailer As you can see, this is not an enclosed trailer. Kenn bought this as a base so that he could build the exact aluminum trailer that he wanted. He built an aluminum frame on this trailer and then sided it with aluminum sheets. He even finished it off with Aluma decals.  And for the top, he had a vinyl snap-on cover made for it. 050 (1) 055             019 016

The Final Product

The two trailers work together perfectly to protect his boat and launch it into the water. The homemade boat trailer goes into the aluminum trailer on an electric winch system. 013 014             008 (1) IMG_1321

We think that Kenn did an awesome job on his boat and trailers! I’m thrilled that he shared his story and all these pictures with us. So far he has won 2 awards in the 3 shows that he has entered. Best of luck to you Kenn! Please keep us updated on all your future projects!

Do any of our other readers have any custom trailers to share? Weather you made improvements yourself, or ordered it specifically for your needs, we want to hear about it and see a picture!

Inside Grandville Trailer

I just want to take a minute to talk about our store. Dave and Andrea Tosh took ownership of Grandville Trailer in 2012. They have poured a lot into making the store look as good as it does. They have also worked hard on the inventory inside of the store. We really want our business to be a place where our customers can come for everything they need. We want to ensure you the capability of coming to once place for your trailer service, parts and trailers in Grand Rapids. Before I tell you about what we stock, here are some pictures to show you the transformation of the outside of the store. We are really proud of this!

I recently did a post called More Than Trailers as just a basic overview of Grandville Trailer. But now I want to go a little more in-dept into what we actually have in our store. We like to say that we are a trailer owner’s “One stop shop”. We want to save you from the hassle of searching all over town for what you need. That’s why we have worked so hard to keep our store well stocked. We pay attention to what’s new on the market as well as what our customers come looking for. Here is a list of what you will find in our store. Keep in mind that we have even more that what is on that list. But here are just a few of our main items that every trailer owner should be familiar with.

Tires

STY_3415

We have a whole separate room stocked with tires for your trailers. Every 2-3 weeks, Dave (owner) takes a trip to Indiana to our tire supplier. He comes back each time with a load of 50-100 tires. That’s quite a load! Good thing we sell trailers, huh? So keep us in mind when you need new tires on your trailer.

Locks

It’s a small, inexpensive item that just may save you from losing a large possession. We really encourage all trailer owners to take this extra precaution to protect their property. We carry these right in our store, so when you come in for any parts, accessories, or service, please consider grabbing a lock as well.

Ball Mounts

STK_3401

Here is another thing that we like to keep well stocked. A lot of our ball mounts are top quality and made by Curt. These are big sellers here, and for good reason. We have a wide range of models so that you can have the best selection possible. So check with us instead of searching all over town.

Tongue Jacks

This is a necessity for every trailer, so you bet your bottom dollar that you can find them in our store. Once again, we have a wide variety to ensure that you can find exactly what you’re looking for.

Swift Hitch Portable Camera System

This is one of our newer products that we can’t get enough of. It is super cool, so handy, and you’ll wonder what you ever did without it. We have had  lot of fun playing with ours. It is very durable and user-friendly. I don’t know why someone didn’t think of this sooner! We love it so much, I wrote about it a couple weeks ago. You can see that post here. We have this on display by the counter in the store, so feel free to play around with it next time you’re here.

LED Lights

LED lights are a great way to give your trailer a sensible, modern update. For one thing, they last for a really long time… I mean, it’s really kind of ridiculous how long they last. We’re talking 10-20 years! Thanks to the fact that they are mercury free, they are much better for our Pure Michigan air. They are perfect for trailers because they can withstand extremely cold temperatures and they are resistant to shocks and vibration. Low maintenance, durable, and long lasting. Why wouldn’t you switch to LED?

Well there you have it. Some of our favorites and top sellers. Check out this video for a peek into our store.

We’ve been working hard and we will continue to do so. We’re proud to have the best parts, service and trailers in Grand Rapids. Happy as we are about how our store is looking, we’re not done. We just purchased the tattoo shop next to our lot. We contemplated learning another trade, but decided on sticking with trailers. Instead, we will be tearing down the building and extending our lot so that we can keep a bigger stock! Stay tuned as we move forward. We’re pretty excited about this! But for now, we’re just enjoying telling everyone that we bought a tattoo parlor!
